* Members and supporters of SHOSAG support 100% public ownership of the Scarborough High School land.

Some quotes from the Labor Party prior to the State Election:

Alannah MacTiernan MLA in The West Australian 21 October 1999

"Ms MacTiernan said the site was magnificent and should be used primarily as public open space. The Government should ensure at least 50% is set aside as a public reserve and that it is zoned appropriately."

John Quigley, ALP Candidate for Innaloo in the Stirling Times 30 November 1999

"He said the Government’s plan to sell the publicly-owned school site for housing was effectively stealing from the local community…My one ambition is to represent the people of Innaloo and build a reputation as the most effective local member in the State…He said the (Liberal) State Government had treated locals with contempt by not consulting them about the future of the site…I will use my legal skills to fight hard for the community to retain every square inch of this land in public ownership."

Alannah MacTiernan MLA, Labor Spokesperson for Planning at SHOSAG’s Open Day 20 February 2000

"…we are not going to say how much land should be open space, whether it should be all open space or 40% open space. That really is a decision for the local community…we have come to understand that the way to do that is to work with the people to go along with the community, to have an interactive process with the local community so that we actually come up with decisions that are, in fact, owned by the community. Labor will have an intensive design-based., publicly interactive planning and design process, which would ensure an outcome that has broad community support."

Geoff Gallop MLA in a Media Release on 5 November 2000 at the Newborough Primary School

"The (Liberal) State Government has resorted to political blackmail in a desperate attempt to divide a local community opposed to the redevelopment of the former Scarborough Senior High School site into a housing estate…we will not proceed with any development on the site until the local community has been properly consulted and a range of options considered."

Ken Travers Labor MLC in Parliament on Thursday 23 November 2000

"If the community wants 100% of the land to remain as public open space…the Labor Party will commit to saving 100% of the land."
